Gus Nweke


Gus Nweke is a Nigerian-born British painter from Essex. He explore ideas that reveals an absence by marking the shadows which serves as an index to the physicality of an absence. His works present you with ambiguous visual images inspired by the shadow. Because it is the closest to a borderless, democratic dimension, where race, gender, or colour isn’t an issue. His practice situates between the figurative and abstract space inspired by the shadows. The Igbos or Ibo call onyinyo ife, or onyinyo nmadu. Gus mainly painted on canvas with acrylic, oil paint, and Collage on printed canvas. He is the convener of the Circle of Independent Artists (CIA). A group of Painters from Nigeria, the
